While preparations for the 3rd Yeditepe Biennial continue, the artist Volkan Kaleli's work titled ‘Hidden Truth’ is set to meet art lovers at Sirkeci Train Station Hangars. The work deals with the aesthetic and philosophical harmony of light and shadow by reinterpreting the adventure of human creation.
“Hidden Truth”, which is one of the remarkable works of the 3rd Yeditepe Biennial this year, will meet with art lovers at Sirkeci Train Station Hangars as the product of the philosophical and artistic background of the artist Volkan Kaleli. Prepared in accordance with the spirit of the biennial, the work invites you to explore the effect of light and shadow in a creation process and the place of man in the universe.
Inspired by Surah At-Tariq of the Holy Qur'an, ‘Hidden Truth’ takes the aesthetic value of light and shadow in Islamic art one step further and offers the viewers both a visual and intellectual experience. In the work, light is portrayed as a creative and formative force, while shadows are depicted as an indispensable complement to this process. Mr. Kaleli uses the dynamics of this duality to interpret the adventure of human creation and the cyclical existence of man in the universe.
The light at the centre of the work reminds the viewers of the desire to reach divine truth, while showing through the shadows that this process continues in balance and harmony. In the work where the third dimension is used as an artistic expression tool, the aesthetic values of light and shadow are presented as a metaphor of creation as in traditional Islamic art.
In line with the theme of the 3rd Yeditepe Biennial, the work blends traditional values with a modern aesthetic approach. ‘Hidden Truth’, which will be exhibited at Sirkeci Train Station Hangars within the scope of the Biennial, will offer art lovers the opportunity to rethink the place of man in the universe.
The 3rd Yeditepe Biennial promises an enjoyable experience by bringing the historical and cultural places of Istanbul together with art. ‘Hidden Truth’ will contribute to both an individual and collective search for meaning through the metaphorical expression of light and shadow.
